Chinatown in San Francisco is not only the largest but also the oldest Chinatown in the United States.

From 1850, Chinatown is a place where descendants of immigrants from Guangdong, gathered and formed. In April 1906, when Great San Francisco earthquake occurred, Chinese workers started to earnestly migrate from China to build railroads and bridges.Representatively, numerous Chinese workers were put in the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, which served as an opportunity for them to flow into the United States on a large scale.

MostChinese people, who take up about 20 percent of San Francisco’s population, still live there. As time goes by, they change even the smallest detail of where they live. When you visit Chinatown, You must get the illusion that you’re in China, not in United States.

Although it shows such an oriental appearance, there are some buildings based on Western architecture. It rather creates harmony between the East and the West, providing a meaningful impression.

There are a lot of Chinese restaurants located in Chinatown, which sell local dishes from China, including Shanghai and Beijing. After having meal, you can experience various Chinese culture, like medicinal herbs, Chinese tea. Some vendors even sing using Karaoke machines. It must be fun to take a walk in Chinatown.
