Foreign Minister Park Jin attended a reception to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Canada hosted by the Canadian Embassy in Seoul on January 12, 2023.
The reception was attended by 140 people, including Tamara Mawhinney, the acting ambassador to Canada, as well as our political, business and cultural personnel.
At the event, congratulatory message exchange between President Yoon Suk Yeol and Canadian Governor Mary Simon took place, reaffirming their willingness to further develop a "comprehensive strategic partnership" between the two countries to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Minister Park then said in a congratulatory speech that South Korea and Canada are opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation based on the achievements of cooperation over the past 60 years. He emphasized that the two countries' relationship was upgraded to a "comprehensive strategic partner" in September last year, when Korean president visited Canada in person.
In particular, Minister Park stressed that the two countries will strengthen economic and security cooperation through high-tech technologies such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, and nuclear power, as partners sharing core values in the North Pacific region.
During the reception, a commemorative video of the 60-year history of Korea-Canada relations and a logo celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations were released.
The logo emphasizes the friendship between the two countries over the past 60 years based on the symbols of the two countries, ‘Taegeuk’ and maple leaves. This logocontains a vision to further develop bilateral relations by looking ahead to the next 60 years. The phrase "Stronger Together" used in the logo is derived from a summit statement released last year on the occasion ofKorean president's visit to Canada.
