The Korea Forest Service announced on the 10th that a 2023 commemorative stamp was issued to introduce four endangered species protected through overseas greenhouse gas reduction activities (REDD+) promoted by Cambodia.
The commemorative stamp introduces four species: Manis javanica, Chrotogaleoustoni, Indochypithecusgermaini, and Hylobates palatus, which were protected through the Red Plus project in Kampung Tom Province, Cambodia.
Since 2015, the Korea Forest Service has reduced 650,000 tons of greenhouse gases in September 2020 through a pilot project of Red Plus (REDD+) implemented in Kampung Tom Province, Cambodia, and has been conducting continuous inspection (monitoring) activities so far.
The Red Plus pilot project is significant not only in reducing greenhouse gases, but also in contributing to Cambodia's forest conservation. It improves the lifequalityof local residents and biodiversity.
In particular, it has contributed to the preservation of 91 species of biodiversity in the site, of which two species of birds and nine species of mammals are endangered species designated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Commemorative stamps can be purchased by visiting the post office or through the Internet post office.
"ReDD+ is an effective natural-based solution that can solve various problems facing mankind, such as joint response to climate change, conservation of biodiversity, and improving the lifequalityof local residents," saidan overseas resource officer.
